Available phosphorus levels in diets for 30 to 60 kg female pigs selected for meat deposition by maintaining calcium and available phosphorus ratio R. Bras. Zootec.
Saraiva,Alysson; Donzele,Juarez Lopes; Oliveira,Rita Flávia Miranda de; Abreu,Márvio Lobão Teixeira de; Silva,Francisco Carlos de Oliveira; Vianna,Rafael Alves; Lima,Anderson Lazarini.
With the objective to evaluate levels of available phosphorus (aP) in diets for pigs selected for meat deposition by maintaining the calcium and available phosphorus ratio, it was used 50 commercial hybrid female pigs with initial weight of 30.32 ± 0.29 kg, distributed in a complete randomized experimental design, with five treatments, five replicates, and two animals per experimental unit. Treatments were composed of a corn-soybean meal basal diet and four diets obtained by supplementation of basal diet with dicalcium phosphate, resulting in diets with 0.144; 0.224; 0.304; 0.384 and 0.464% of aP. Calcium levels were adjusted by varying the quantities of limestone in the diets. There was no effect of aP on both daily feed intake and feed conversion. Levels...

Digestible phosphorus levels for barrows from 50 to 80 kg R. Bras. Zootec.
Santos Nieto,Viviane Maria Oliveira dos; Kiefer,Charles; Souza,Karina Márcia Ribeiro de; Gonçalves,Liliane Maria Piano; Bonin,Marina de Nadai; Santos,Tânia Mara Baptista dos; Carvalho,Kelly Cristina Nunes; Santos,Alexandre Pereira dos.
ABSTRACT This study was carried out to evaluate the levels of digestible phosphorus in diets for barrows with a high potential for lean meat deposition from 50 to 80 kg. Eighty barrows, with an initial weight of 47.93±3.43 kg, were distributed in completely randomized blocks, with each group given five levels of digestible phosphorus (1.86, 2.23, 2.61, 2.99, and 3.36 g kg−1). There were eight replicates, and two animals per experimental unit. Phosphorus levels did not significantly influence feed intake, weight gain, or feed conversion ratio. Daily digestible phosphorus intake increased linearly as levels of phosphorus in the diet were increased. Phosphorus levels did not significantly influence muscle depth, loin eye area, backfat thickness, or the...

Effects of growth phase and nitrogen limitation on biochemical composition of two strains of Tisochrysis lutea ArchiMer
Da Costa, Fiz; Le Grand, Fabienne; Quere, Claudie; Bougaran, Gael; Cadoret, Jean-paul; Robert, Rene; Soudant, Philippe.
Standard and mutant Tisochrysis lutea strains were grown in batch culture for 10 days under nitrogen (N)-replete and N-reduced conditions to determine the effects of N supply in culture medium and growth phase on microalgal physiology and biochemistry. These two T. lutea strains were compared in terms of growth, morphology, associated free-living bacterial community, viability, intracellular lipid content (as measured by Bodipy staining), chlorophyll autofluorescence, and biochemical composition, with a focus on lipid class and fatty acid compositions. The standard strain (T) reached higher cell counts regardless of N supply in culture medium. In both T. lutea strains, microalgal final cell density was significantly lower in N-reduced medium. Carbohydrates...

The effects of growth phase and light intensity on toxin production by Dinophysis acuminata from the northeastern United States ArchiMer
Tong, Mengmeng; Kulis, David M.; Fux, Elie; Smith, Juliette L.; Hess, Philipp; Zhou, Qixing; Anderson, Donald M..
For many years, the study of toxic Dinophysis species was primarily restricted to field populations until it was recently demonstrated that some of these organisms can be mixotrophically cultured in the laboratory with the ciliate prey, Myrionecta rubra. which had previously been fed with cryptophytes of the genus Teleaulax and Geminigera. Here we investigated the influence of growth phase and light intensity on the production of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) toxins and pectenotoxins (PTXs) in cultures of Dinophysis acuminata from the northeastern United States. The cell toxin content of okadaic acid (OA), dinophysistoxin-1 (DTX1), pectenotoxin-2 (PTX2), and the okadaic acid diol ester (OA-D8) varied significantly with growth phase under all light...

True and apparent digestibility of protein and amino acids of feed in Nile tilapia R. Bras. Zootec.
Ribeiro,Felipe Barbosa; Lanna,Eduardo Arruda Teixeira; Bomfim,Marcos Antonio Delmondes; Donzele,Juarez Lopes; Quadros,Moisés; Cunha,Patrícia de Souza Lima.
It was determined in this work the coefficients of apparent and true digestibility of protein and amino acids of five feeds (corn, wheat bran, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, fish meal) in Nile tilapia. It was used 252 reverted Thai strain Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in growth phase, with weight of 310 ± 9.68 g, distributed in experimental randomized blocks design, with five treatments, six replicates per treatment and seven fish per experimental unit. Each experimental diet contained a single source of protein, composed by the studied ingredients. An additional group of fish was fed protein-free diet for quantification of the endogenous fraction and determination of true digestibility coefficients. Digestibility was estimated by the indirect...
